in paddock boots

break in) how hard is it to try wearing tall boots?

it really depends on the show you’re at. some are way formal and others are really backyard. and tall boots aren’t hard to wear, you just have to make sure they fit right. and to supple them, i use neatsfoot oil. it makes the leather softer. i used it the first time i wore my boots and there was practically no breaking-in. i got it at horsetown.

Well it really depends on what type of show you are attending – Recognized, Unrecognized, or schooling, and it also depends on how dressy your paddock boots and half chaps are.

Most shows do require tall boots. If you get a good brand of boots it only takes about 2 weeks of constant wear to break them in.

Not sure about the 1/2 chaps, but I know that you can show in paddock boots and jodpur breeches at small schooling shows.

Hi, my daughter wore her short boots and spotless chaps, up to age 15, then she wore the long, pain full!! boots. I don’t think it really matters in local shows so much.

You can, if you have black non-zip paddock boots, and black fine-grain half chaps (which all have to be polished, just like tall boots). If you get properly-fitting tall boots, they are easy to wear; I like the ones that zip up in the back better. Go to a tack shop to try on different boots. Get the calf a little big so you can wear thicker boot socks to help protect against rubbing, and the cold if you are showing in the winter.

Well, most people just wear paddock boots and garders (spelling might be wrong on that) until they are at the short stirrup level or higher. But after you are past short stirrup I think you are supposed to have tall boots. I don’t think you can show in 1/2 chaps unless you are just doing an academy show or something. Hope that helps :)
